Handling downloaded files

DOWNLOAD LINKS
Items purchased online are delivered by default as an email 'download link' normally sent to you the same day as payment confirmation. You will need an application such as WinZIP or StuffIt Expander to decode and decompress the files.

After a purchasing downloadable products via Kagi.com, you will receive a Thanks for your purchase! receipt by email. The email will include a 'download link'. Click on a free 'download link' test below. This simulates what happens when the 'download link' is clicked in your email receipt and tests whether you already have a program that can decode/decompress the downloaded file.

Windows users or
Macintosh users

Most Operating Systems now come with some kind of application to decode file attachments. If the file test downloaded successfully but could not be 'decoded', or 'expanded' please
download the free Windows 'Expander' application (for .ZIP) or
download the free Macintosh 'Expander' application (for .SIT.HQX)
and try again. This test will show if your computer can decode the 'types' of file downloaded or sent as email attachment.

To ensure files are downloaded and processed, your web browser and its File Helper need to be set correctly before downloading. Please note these notes are an example only. Your partucular Browser may have different expressions for the same routine.

1: The Web browser (Internet Explorer/Safari/Firefox etc) must be configured to place the downloaded files at a known location. For example, for Internet Explorer:
launch the browser
select Edit > Preferences > Download Options
select from either 'Download Folder' (which can be chaged to whatever you like, or 'Use File helper locations preferences' to have the file stored in the location set by the Browser's decoding (File Helper) application.

2: Still in the Browser, select
Edit > Preferences > Receiving Files > File Helpers
select PC ZIP Archive: StuffIt Deluxe opens: .ZIP and application/zip files. (A different application can be set to handle .ZIP files if you wish). If 'Download Folder' was selected in step 1, select Download Folder here in step 2. The File helper will then store files in the location that has been set in step 1.

If 'Use File helper' option was selected in step 1, then the decoding application's preferences will take precidence. The File helper can be set to 'Prompt' for a destination at download time; asking the User to supply a destination each time a file is handled by this File Helper application.

Checking your System's ability to download large files

If you find files of a larger size cannot be received by you, an adjustment may be necessary. Please ensure that large files can be received by your Internet Service Provider (ISP), Server or email program! Ask your System Administrator to effect the changes. It is your responsibility, the Purchaser, to provide accurate delivery information and also ensure that files can be accepted this way. If files are not delivered within the stated time there can be several reasons:

1. Email delivery address provided to us is incorrect.

2. Your ISP does not allow large file downloads, either via your web browser of your email Client (application).

3. For products sent by email attachment, email Client (application) setting is too low to receive the large file.

4. Our email address is not a 'trusted' email address known to you.

If any of these circumstances prevents you from receiving files, we try to contact you in the following ways, giving you the opportunity to change settings with your ISP, Server or email program:

1. Email you detailing size of 'failed' message.

2. Telephone to discuss how to remedy the situation.

3. Write explaining the situation.

If any of the contact details as provided to us are incorrect, we cannot be held responsible for any delays in delivery.

Email Client Settings (for email attachments only)
To adjust the program receiving your email to allow files of the size you set, look for a menu item such as Preferences, Options or anything which relates to sending/receiving email and make an adjustment large enough (as stated in our email) to cope with the troublesome file.
