Handling downloaded files

DOWNLOAD LINKS
After a purchasing downloadable products via Kagi.com, an on-screen 'Thanks for your purchase!' receipt is displayed. A short time later you will receive a Thanks for your purchase! receipt by email. The email will include a product download link.

WINDOWS USERS
1. Click the 'product download link' in the 'Thanks for your purchase!' email. If this fails to start your web Browser (such as Internet Explorer), copy the download link and paste it into the location field of your web browser, press Enter.

2. When prompted by the 'File Download' dialog, select 'Save' and use the controls to navigate to a place on your Hard Disk (C Drive) to store the file. (You may also store the file on the Desktop if you wish, but should not be left there permanently).

3. Navigate to the location of the ZIP file and double-click its icon. The 'Open With' dialog appears. Select 'Compressed (ZIPPED) Folders' and OK. The zipped Folder opens to display its contents, which can be dragged out. Now start the installation procedure with
Start > Settings > Control Panel > Fonts > Install New Font(s)...
Locate the fonts that were dragged out of the ZIP Folder
Select All > OK. Your fonts are now installed.
Note: some products come as executable installer applications which must be double-clicked to install the fonts automatically.

MACINTOSH USERS
To ensure files are downloaded and processed, your web browser and its File Helper need to be set correctly before downloading. Please note these notes are an example only. Your particular Browser may have different expressions for the same routine.

1: The Web browser (Internet Explorer/Safari/Firefox etc) must be configured to place the downloaded files at a known location. For example, for Internet Explorer:
launch the browser
select Edit > Preferences > Download Options
select from either 'Download Folder' (which can be chaged to whatever you like, or 'Use File helper locations preferences' to have the file stored in the location set by the Browser's decoding (File Helper) application.

2: Still in the Browser, select
Edit > Preferences > Receiving Files > File Helpers
select PC ZIP Archive: StuffIt Deluxe opens: .ZIP and application/zip files. (A different application can be set to handle .ZIP files if you wish). If 'Download Folder' was selected in step 1, select Download Folder here in step 2. The File helper will then store files in the location that has been set in step 1.

If 'Use File helper' option was selected in step 1, then the decoding application's preferences will take precidence. The File helper can be set to 'Prompt' for a destination at download time; asking the User to supply a destination each time a file is handled by this File Helper application.

TROUBLESHOOTING
The following instructions are offered to solve download problems.

DOWNLOAD TEST
Click on a free 'download link' test below. This simulates what happens when the 'download link' is clicked in your email receipt and tests whether you already have a program that can decode/decompress the downloaded file.

Windows product download link test
Macintosh product download link test

You will need an application such as WinZIP or StuffIt Expander to decode and decompress the files. If the steps above have failed, it is possible that the appropriate program is not available on your computer to decrypt or decompress the file.

GET THE NECESSARY DECOMPRESSION PROGRAM
Most Operating Systems now come with some kind of application to decode file attachments. If the file test downloaded successfully but could not be 'decoded', or 'expanded' please
download the free Windows 'Expander' application (for .ZIP) or
download the free Macintosh 'Expander' application (for .SIT.HQX)
and try again. This test will show if your computer can decode the 'types' of file downloaded or sent as email attachment.
