Downloading/running Installer programs

Some products have 'Installers' which make copying of files easier for the user and guarantees installation of the files in correct locations. We deliver Installers by supplying a hyperlink sent in an email message.

You may test these sample Installer links below to check their compatibility with your Operating System, virus checking or other security measures that you may have in place. This Installer only copies a partial unusable font into a Folder on your Hard Disk as an example of how the installation process.

Window users:

Click the link that appears in your email, like this
http://www.clubtype.co.uk/mwinst/XP-Installer.exe
(You may also Copy & Paste the url from an email into a web Browser).

(If your delivered download link, has .ZIP or .HQX at the end of the link, then please refer to this FAQ to first UNZIP or UNSTUFF your file to place the Installer on your Hard Disk. Then run the Installer as described below).

You may use the Installer in two ways; Run or Save.

1. If "Run" is chosen, the Installer.exe file runs.
Select 'OK' and choose the destination on your Hard Disk to store a Folder containing the product. A Folder will be copied to the destination of your choice and all files will be copied to the correct locations for use.

2. If "Save" is chosen, a Save As dialog is displayed.
Navigate to a place where you would like to store the exectable file.
Save the executable file to your Hard Disk.
You may then double-click the Installer file to run it anytime later.

Macintosh users:

Installers may be supplied in two ways;
  • Compresssed text file such as HQX
  • Macintosh Disk Image (.dmg) file that you can double-click

FILES WITH .HQX EXTENSION
Most commonly supplied by us for delivery of single font files that must be manually installed into your system in order for the font to function. Click the link that appears in your email, like this (You may also Copy & Paste the url into a web browser).

To survive Internet transmission through both 7-bit and 8-bit systems, the file contents have been encoded into plain Text, which appears in your Browser window (as gobbledegook). Select File > Save As... from your Browser window. Do not append with .txt extension if asked. Instead save with the .sit.hqx extension to your Hard Disk. (Extensions tell the System which program to use when Opening).

You may now Quit the Browser. Navigate to the location of saved .hqx file and double-click. 'Select a location to expand the archive in' then click 'Open'. A Folder containing the expanded files is now stored at that location. It is advisable to make a duplicate of the Folder containing the fonts. When files are moved from one Folder into the System, a copy will remain in case they need to be replaced after a System crash. You may now install fonts in the usual way. Once successfully installed and working, you should also include your newly aquired software in any back-up strategy in case the entire System or Hard Disk is replaced.

If you have any further problems, please see other topics on our FAQ page before seeking support.
